Hello Class!

The next area employers are trying to understand is motivation. What stimulates and rewards employees?

Here are a couple of sample questions they will ask you.

Tell me a time when you worked your hardest and felt the greatest sense of achievement.  What did you do?

Tell me about a frustrating experience you were faced with. Why were you frustrated? What did you do? What was the results?

What do you feel was your most significant achievement so far in a work situation? What did you do that was so rewarding?

If you would like to send me your answers to review, please go to my website @ www.careerresolutions.com

See you Monday!

Hello and welcome back!

Before I explain more about the theory and why companies choose to use this process, let’s get you prepared before that phone rings for an interview.  Hopefully must companies will tell you that you will have a behavioral interivew.

Here’s how you prepare…

Hopefully your resume is already fully packed with accomplishments!  If not go to www.careerresolutions.com and I can help you with that.

Look at all of your wonderful accomplishments and be able to tell the story. Explain the challenge you faced, the action you took and result of that action.  Remember to quantify as much as you can.  For example:  Increased sales 50% exceeding the goal of 20% and increased revenue by $5M. If you write stories of all of your accomplishments you will be prepared to answer any behavioral question an interviewer throws at you.

One area companies what to know about is initiative.  Can you influence events and people to achieve goals.  Are you a self starter? Do you take creative action to achieve goals?

Sample initiative questions:

Provide an example of when you were in a situation where you were unable to meet your goal and then you were able to turn it around and exceed the goal. What did you do? Why did you choose that route? What was the final outcome?

Tell me about a time you went above and beyond what was expected of you?

Answer these questions and sent them to me @ roserybski@aol.com. I will gladly critique them for you.

See you in class tomorrow!

What is the Targeted Selection Interview Process

Hello and welcome to class 1.

So what is this targeted selection interview process and why do I need to know it?

Many employers are utilizing this process to hire candidates today.

Basically, it is a behavioral approach to improved hiring decisions.

Hiring individuals is a risk and can be very costly for companies to find out that three months down the road the new employee did not work out and they have to go through the hiring process again, and the job is not filled.

The following concepts are  incorporated in the Targeted Selection Process:

Focuses on  past behaviors to predict future behaviors.

Focuses on job-related behavior and assess the job, organization and motivatonal fit.

Wow!  You are probably saying.  This is going to be tough!  Not really, I will instruct you how to suceed in this process.

I really like this approach.  It not only good for the hiring managers, it is good for the job seeker as well!  Don’t you want to know if you will be a good fit?  Have you ever taken a job and a month or so into it you regret your decsion?

I did that.  I did not fit into the company’s culture at all. I wish I knew that before I signed on!

See you tomorrow for our continued discussion!

30 Seconds To Make Your First Impression To Potential Emloyers

Have you prepared your 30 minute commerical?  This is so important.  You never know when you are going to meet someone that can get you to your next position.

Listed below is a great sample you can follow. Good Luck!

Elevator Pitch Guidelines:

The elevator pitch should be at least 30 seconds and no longer than 2 minutes. The elevator pitch should be so concise a 12 year old can relate to it!  The precise content of the pitch is up to you, and should communicate: your skills, your experience, and what you are seeking.

Practice the pitch on friends until you’re comfortable with it, and able to concisely repeat it to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Use the pitch to make all of your contacts aware of your skills and mission. Then the next time you’re riding in an elevator (so to speak) with someone who can possibly help to advance your search, you will be able to quickly communicate your pitch to them in a concise and memorable format that will stick with them.

Always have a networking card available to reinforce your pitch and provide a way for potential employers/networking contacts to follow-up with you.

Sample job-seeker: Performance driven sales professional with 15+ years experience in the computer and Internet industries. Expert in sophisticated e-commerce sales models and vast knowledge of both the e-business marketplace and the capabilities and complexities of products.  During my career I have achieved the title of # 1 sales producer within just one year, generating $7.6 million annually. I am currently looking for a position where I can leverage my successes of establishing large volume, high profit accounts with excellent levels of retention and loyalty within the e-commerce industry.
